Dell 944 Printer Driver

Download Driver Dell 944 Printer Driver and Software - Dell Photo AIO Printer 944 ($149 direct ) is extremely limited, with only three functions : scanning, copying, and printing. Like a printer, however, it offers fast, high-quality photo output, together with reasonable speed and quality for text and graphics. And that is enough in order to make the entire package worth considering like a home or light-duty home-office AIO for anyone having a particular curiosity about photos.

The 944 weighs 13 pounds, and also at 11. 4 by 17. 2 by 17. 5 inches (HWD ), is sufficiently small to suit comfortably on the desk or on a close-by table. Setup is typical for AIOs that connect using USB 2. 0 : Simply load the ink and paper, connect the cable and power cord, and run the automated installation routine. The 944 uses two ink cartridges. It is available having a black and tricolor cartridge for four-color printing using cyan, yellow, magenta, and black. You may also substitute a photograph cartridge to the black cartridge to obtain six-color printing, which adds the typical light cyan and light magenta for better looking photos.

Unlike the similarly priced Brother MFC-420cn, the 944 has no network connector, automatic document feeder (ADF ) for handling multipage documents, or built-in fax modem to allow it to work like a standalone fax. Its control software will let you scan directly towards the Microsoft Windows XP fax utility, though, letting you make use of a fax modem with your PC (which is much more than some AIOs offer ). At this price, you certainly won't discover a transparency adapter for slides. That is a feature reserved for photo AIOs that cost greater than twice just the maximum amount of, notably our Editors' Choice, the Canon Pixma MP760 Photo All-in-One.
The 944 does build in lots of features geared to photos, starting having a connector that allows you to print from PictBridge cameras, slots for direct printing from memory cards, and also a 2. 4-inch LCD that allows you to preview photos on memory cards. Most especially, photo-printing speed and quality are both good, and people will be the two most critical issues once the ink hits the paper.

On our performance tests, (timed with QualityLogic's hardware and software, www. qualitylogic. com ) the 944 completed top speed in its price class for photos and reasonable speed for business applications. Total time on our business applications suite was 21 minutes 18 seconds—faster than anything inside the 944's immediate price range, but noticeably slower compared to the 18-minutes to the a smaller amount expensive HP PSC 1510 All-in-One or perhaps the 19 : 47 to the Dell Photo AIO Printer 924 and this is less expensive.

The 944 shined on our photo suite, though, averaging 1 : 21 for every 4-by-6 print and 2 : 52 for every 8-by-10. Although that is roughly 10 seconds slower in each case compared to the 924, it is significantly faster than other sub-$300 AIO we have tested. The 944 also excels in photo and graphics quality. The ratings for both, in the high end of excellent, are top scores for ink jet AIOs during this price class. Our monochrome photo did show a distinct off-black tint, but that is the only real issue worth mentioning. Most photos are true photo quality, ideal for framing or albums.

We‘ve one or two cautions to feature about photos, however. First, the corporate is going to upgrade its Dell Premium Photo Paper. The currently shipping product at this writing includes a claimed 50-year image lifetime. The new medium, and that is what our results are depending on, will boost that to 90 years when photos are displayed behind standard (instead of UV-filtering ) glass. Unfortunately, as of the writing, Dell has not set a definite ship date for shipping the new paper.

Somewhat confusingly, the new product will retain a similar name like the current one.
Dell says that once the new version ships, the Web-site ordering page will show the 90-year claimed lifetime, though. Even using the new paper, however, touching a photograph with even slightly moist hands can smudge it. Keep an eye on your files so that you could reprint accidentally destroyed images.

Graphics showed no significant flaws. Quality is easily good enough for the important client or customer, and marginally good enough for graphic artists. The text rating, at good, is solidly midrange to the 944's price class. So long as you do not have an unusual need for small fonts, the printer can handle anything you may need. All told, the mixture of price, performance, output quality, and AIO features is good enough in order to make the 944 a robust contender at this price, although not really a slam-dunk.
